Swimming Carnival 2012

Last Wednesday Tweed South kicked off the sporting year in true style. All students from Year 2-6 attended the School Swimming Carnival displaying exceptional commitment and outstanding behaviour. Jugerah, Burbi and Gwondo were well represented with a bright display of green, red and blue swimming attire flooding the Banora Point Pool.

The day started with a prime event, the 100m Freestyle. Evidently, the entire school were keen to get wet with children jumping off the blocks and totally disregarding the enormity of the event. Teachers were very impressed with the 'have a go' attitude of all kids and their enthusiasm to earn important points for their respective house teams.

The remainder of the day comprised of 50m and 25m races in Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and even Butterfly. There were some phenomenal individual performances. The Dixon sisters shone brightly, Kimberly showed her all-round swimming talent and Jade surprised herself to place highly in each of her events and lead her team to a relay victory.

The Shackley brothers impressed the crowd while Brenton and Bam Bam Simon were tough to beat in every race they entered. 'Gwondo Man' made a brief but stylish appearance with a belly-flop that whipped the crowd into a frenzy during the final relays.

The Year 2 and 3's had a ball in the Oasis Pool with Miss Purkiss and Mrs O'Farrell while the remainder of students enjoyed free time in the Olympic Pool.

A huge thank you to all the staff and parents that chipped in as usual to make the day a real success. Listen up at Friday's assembly for age champions and congratulations to Jugerah who won the carnival in a tight finish from Gwondo and Burbi.
