2-3F Science is the go !

We have started this term involved in a science unit entitled ‘Heating Up'. It looks at changes in temperature and how those changes occur. We have already found out that changes in temperature can occur through electrical, mechanical and chemical means. When we rubbed our hands together to make them warm, Braxon gave us the word ‘friction' to describe this event. We watched a video and learned how penguins move in a continuous huddle, taking turns in the middle to keep warm. We also learned that the black colouring on their backs helps to keep them warm. Ivan remarked that penguins also have a layer of fat called blubber that helps keep warmth in. Noah called it ‘insulation'.

Last week we walked to the library as part of our unit on ‘Workers In The Community'. The visit to the library and the PCYC was to witness people who work in the community and the jobs that they do. At the library we listened to stories, played some bingo games and built the city of Canberra using lego. Braxon built a ‘generator' in the hope of returning to retrieve his lucky charm. At the PCYC we were able to see all of the facilities that are available to use.  Our legs were a bit tired when we returned.
