This week students have been focussing on speech marks articles in class.
An opening quotation mark should appear at the beginning of each paragraph of the quoted text and a closing quotation mark at the end of the last only.
"Good morning, Miette," said Yvette.
For speech within speech:
"Neil said, ‘Good morning, Mitchell'," said Hayley.
Do not use quotation marks for paraphrased speech:
WRONG: Matthew said that "Everything was going extremely well."
RIGHT: Matthew said that everything was going extremely well.
Which sentence has the correct punctuation?
1. Dad said Time for bed.
2. "Dad said," Time for bed.
3. Dad said, "time for bed.
4. Dad said, "Time for Bed."
