During Term 1 and continuing in to Term 2, 1-2A has been engaging in a new concept in maths called "Number Talks". With Mrs Kerr's assistance, we have been learning the different ways of how we can represent a number. We are learning about all the different ways we can show a number in a ten frame, what it looks like in tally marks, whether it is odd or even, what it looks like on a domino and how it could look in the environment. e.g. if discussing the number 4 the students could say that a horse has 4 legs. The number talks are helping the students think flexibly about numbers, which can help them with addition and subtraction, and multiplication and division. We had a chance to create a poster about the number 5 and the students thought of many interesting and creative ways to display 5.
