What's happening in KC?

KC thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the NAIDOC activities at Tweed Heads South Public School. Unfortunately I couldn't be there due to sickness but from all reports from the children it sounds like it was a successful and exciting day. The children enthusiastically recounted the day with stories of how they made boomerangs and animal masks, engaged in aboriginal dance and enjoyed delicious damper and golden syrup.

We have also begun our speeches as part of the Public Speaking Competition at our school. The students began by viewing other children's speeches on YouTube and brainstorming topics they could talk about. They then chose a topic they are interested in and drew pictures to represent the different things that they can talk about under their chosen topic. I am very pleased with the quality of work that KC students are achieving with their speeches. We may have some vibrant future leaders of Australia! Week 1 of next term we will be practicing saying our speech in front of our class mates.

This week we are also engaging in Child Protection activities and discussions. We will be talking about our bodies and reinforcing the ‘No, Go, Tell' message. As a lead up to the holidays we will also be looking at ‘Stranger Danger' and having discussions and role plays around this theme. I encourage parents and carers to talk to their children about what we are learning to consolidate this important knowledge.
