Students in 5-6B have been very fortunate to have Mr Luke Wells, a student from Southern Cross University in his final year of study completing his fourth year practicum with us.
Mr. Wells has been very eager to get involved with all aspects of school life, especially teaching our Science unit called Essential Energy.
Last Week students were investigating the use of water movement in streams and rivers, harnessing the movement energy by designing a waterwheel.
Students followed a procedural text in the construction of a waterwheel and adapting their design so the energy of the moving water transferred to the waterwheel, turning the wheel, and lifting a small weight.
Students took turn as each group trialled their design, after a few attempts groups' quickly predicted if their waterwheel would be successful. This week we will redesign our waterwheels to make them more efficient.
