Marvellous Careers Market Day!

Recently, Tweed Heads South Public School hosted our highly successful 2013 Careers Market Day Expo. Over 400 students from local schools in Tweed Heads, Carool, Terranora, Bilambil and Banora Point (Centaur) participated.

The event started with inspirational talks regarding possible career pathways given by: Allison Lonsdale from Connect; Owen Metimeti – Nortec Youth Connections; Kylie Jones – Kingscliff TAFE; Mandy Kilotat – Southern Cross University; Deb Page- Thomas – Careers Advisor Tweed River High with school based trainees Cassidy-Ray and Harry and Mitch Armour from Centrelink. The session in the hall finished off with a surprise visit from the Federal Police acting out a scene on stage with the clever ‘sniffer dogs' detecting ‘something suspicious' from suitcases.

Then it was fun for all in the ‘Try a Trade'. We had representatives from Tweed Heads Ambulance & St John Ambulance; Australian Federal Police; NSW Police; Aboriginal Police Liaison Officer (Bec Couch); Tweed Heads Fire Brigade; Commonwealth Bank Tweed Heads South; Volunteers Friends of The Pound; ‘Our Vet'; Bullinah Aboriginal Health Services; Tweed District Dental; Envision Optical; ‘Surf Girls Morgan & Michelle' from Pacific & Coolangatta Surf Clubs; Tweed Shire Council; The Titans; Forged Fitness Gym; TRAC Bubbles Swim School; MSP Photography; Tweed Library; Woolworths Cabarita; TAFE Kingscliff Construction; Tweed River High School – Agriculture, Marine Studies & Robotics; Bunnings Warehouse ; Laptops2go and our very own Amy Mudge with Cake Decorating.

Geoff Provest, our local National Party State Member for Tweed Heads popped in to say hello and said he was very impressed with the event itself and the enthusiastic commitment from the local business community providing valuable real life career experiences for the students.

A special thanks must be given to all the staff at Tweed Heads South for ‘pitching in' as they always do and to the P & C for their ongoing tireless efforts.

Parents and students, thank you for coming along, actively participating in the activities and showing great appreciation to our volunteer stallholders.

Congratulations to Mrs Gould and Samuel (1-2M) for winning the lucky door prize, a family pass to visit Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

A special ‘big' thanks from myself to everyone involved in this amazing event. Miss Ingrid you really do rock! Bring on the Tweed Heads South Career Expo for 2014....BIGGER AND BETTER!
