Our Local Language and Cultural Program has been going from strength to strength this term. We’ve seen a noticeable increase in knowledge and understanding across all year levels, which has been fantastic to witness. A highlight this term has been the expansion of the program into Preschool – a wonderful development that has been met with great enthusiasm.
Ronalda has been delivering engaging language lessons that align with our Scope and Sequence of learning. We’ve also started incorporating group activities to ensure that students can work in smaller groups with Ronalda. These smaller sessions are already proving to enhance student engagement and support more focused, quality learning experiences.
In addition to the student language lessons, I’ve had the privilege of working one-on-one and in small groups with teachers and executive staff to plan and develop lessons that promote inclusive perspectives and culturally responsive pedagogies. Each group is at a different stage of planning and implementation, and I’m incredibly proud of the staff’s ongoing commitment — because Aboriginal education is everyone’s business.
Last week, we held a very productive Aboriginal Education meeting focused on planning for NAIDOC Week 2025. This year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision, and Legacy,” highlights the importance of nurturing future leaders while respecting the heritage and wisdom passed down through generations. The work we’re doing in this space is vital in fostering connection, pride, and understanding within our school community. This was followed by another successful Parent Yarn Up, where families also engaged in meaningful discussions and planning around NAIDOC activities.
Student leadership has also been a focus area. Miss Tunstead, Tahne and I have been working together to create more opportunities for students to explore and develop their leadership skills and aspirations. It’s exciting to see this important space continue to grow.
