A creative Rose at Tweed Heads South!

Greetings and welcome to another school year! My name is Ms Deisha Rose, and I am so excited to become a part of the dynamic teaching staff here at Tweed Heads South Public School. Rather than having just one class of fabulous students here, my role is to nurture and expand all students as they make their way through a stimulating and creative Performing Arts journey that spans the entire school year. Throughout this time, we will focus on exploring and experimenting with music, dance and drama so that your children will be able to express themselves freely and expansively in a safe, fun and supportive environment. Exciting times ahead!

To give you a snapshot into the coming year, I've prepared a hot list of important information:

  • In Term One, our focus will be on Music. Your children will learn to sing, move and appreciate music. They will also become budding instrumentalists as they experiment with the beat, rhythm, pitch and tone of different pieces of music. Apologies in advance for when your child comes home singing a song which gets eternally stuck in your head... story of my life J
  • In Terms Two and Three, we will focus on Drama and Dance respectively. I anticipate bringing these art forms together in the final term as we work towards a school-wide performance showcase. Watch this space!
  • Who loves to sing? We do! For those interested, we will be holding auditions for our school choir shortly. I will send notes home to all parents/caregivers. If your child likes to sing (even in the shower!), please encourage them to come along and try out.
  • Rocking Recorders. A little later this term, students in Years 2 and 3 will be bringing home a note about our new recorder program. Recorders are a fantastic foundation for future instrumentalists, as they enable children to learn to read music, identify melodies and, of course, play a vast range of music. Be prepared to hear "Hot Cross Buns" played repeatedly on your child's recorder in the coming weeks. You will love it!

That's about it for the small details. Our journey has started off with a bang (literally!), as students have been using percussion instruments and other sound sources to create a musical landscape within our classroom. The students enjoyed themselves greatly. Let the fun continue!

For your information, I am here Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. So if you see me, please feel free to come and say hi - I would love to share your child's performing arts journey with you.
